I’d like to know what the best virus/malware/trojan/worm/spyware/whatev… removal is.
Also I’d like to know what the best anti-virus is. I’m not in the market for ONLY free programs. I’m just in the market for the best hands down.
Is the scan and removal seperate from the anitvirus? that’s fine.. I’m not lazy.
Also any advise as far as firewalls go would be nice too! I really want to get my computer locked down and safe.
Thanks!

Virus Removal

Kaspersky is not very good… it misses a lot of viruses!
try one of these free ones!
AVG or Avast are the highest rated!…http://free.grisoft.com/http://www.avast.com/eng/avast_4_home.ht…
you can also try NOD32…http://vidmar.net/weblog/archive/2005/11…
or Bitdefender Free….http://www.bitdefender.com/PRODUCT-14-en…
Firewalls:http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com..…http://www.pctools.com/firewall/
Anti-Spyware:http://www.arovaxantispyware.com/http://www.lavasoftusa.com/products/ad_a…
Spyware Doctor (Comes with Google Pack)…http://pack.google.com/
kaspersky
Having done the research from those who test Antivirus programs (av comparatives, virus.gr,others and other professional reviews) the highest rated free programs is
Avira Antivir http://www.download.com/Avira-AntiVir-Pe…
The Top Rated Antivirus Programs you can buy is Nod32http://www.download.com/Eset-NOD32-Antiv…
or Kaperskyhttp://www.download.com/3120-20_4.html?q…
(nod32 is high rated and won’t slow your system down)
Kapersky is also highly rated.
What you want to stay away from Is Nortons or Mcaffee
both are not as high rated and will slow your system down.
However Today you in are just as much danger from Spyware / adware etc.. I Recommend SuperAntiSpyware http://www.download.com/SUPERAntiSpyware…
( I used this to remove spyware from a laptop that adaware would only detect but not get rid of )
You can also Download and Run Advanced Windows Personal Care,http://www.download.com/Advanced-Windows… Sometimes you can run this in safe mode, which would enable you to disable harmful programs before they start in normal mode.
(I recommend you uncheck the Registry tab, but pay close attention to the Spyware, Security and Startup tabs and see what is starting up and disable harmful items. Run this program in safe mode if possible. http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsaf…
You can also keep things from starting up using MSCONFIGhttp://www.netsquirrel.com/msconfig/
also make sure you are using a firewall to keep people out of your pc
The best one available is Comodo http://www.download.com/Comodo-Firewall-…
If your computer can’t be cleaned this way, it’s because the virus is loading everytime you boot up. as a last resort you can take out your hard drive put it in a nother computer as a slave drive, and use that computers Antivirus / Antispyware program to scan the drive for you, this would work because as a slave drive it is not booting up, and the viruses would not start up.
P.S. you can do a complete scan simply by using the SuperAntispyware after both are installed, as the SuperAntispyware touches the files, if they are infected the Antivirus will find infected files as well.
ESET NOD32
The best anti-virus software is not free. Here are some fee based options, though they are discounted for a limited time:
Norton Anti-Virus – http://www.software-dod.com/2nd-chance-n…
BitDefender Anti-Virus – http://www.software-dod.com/2nd-chance-b…
Computer Associates Anti-Virus – http://www.software-dod.com/2nd-chance-c…
Goodluck
Norman and Kaspersky
Well, antivirus and virus removal are pretty much same thing.
For starters, I would not recommend any of the free software available. While it does help, you are still vulnerable to many viruses that are out there. Secondly, if you are using a Windows-based PC, disable the automatic Windows update feature. Windows update is the opposite of safe. As a matter of fact, my current antivirus program by F-Secure detected a virus of which came from one of the updates for Windows that I had downloaded from the Microsoft database.
Try going to the F-Secure website (http://www.f-secure.com/ ) for more information. Alternatively, you could check out Norton’s website (http://shop.symantecstore.com/store/symn…
As sure as people have different favorites of ice cream. They gave different favorites for antivirus.
These are in the top 5: Nod32 (my favorite because it is small and highly effective), Kaspersky (supposed to be the best), Avira, Norton (big and fat though, eats a lot of computing resources but because of marketing they get the most exposure and most popular) and F-secure.
Here are testing companies which are nonprofit and university related that have done thorough tests on them.http://www.av-comparatives.org/seiten/er…http://www.av-comparatives.org/seiten/er…http://www.av-test.org/
Goodluck in finding the one that fits your needs. NOD32 may not be ranked perfect but because it is small and finds almost all, including 12/12 polymorphic viruses, it suits me fine.
2 very popular firewalls are zonealarm and comodo firewall. download them free at download.com or buy a professional license. Although the free versions do just fine. Comodo is a little more advanced in the sense that you can customize more and have more control over your firewall, it lets you finetune. Zonealarm just blankets and doesnt require much effort in setting it up. It pretty much works out of the box so to speak. Dont get Zonealarm 7 it is still buggy. Get the older 6.5 version. Can be found at oldversion.com
Hope this helps.

The best by far is Norton, by Symantec. The trouble is it’s very big and has a huge footprint. If you have a modern PC with a decent processor speed it’s definitely the one to choose.
If you’re using a router you don’t need a separate firewall, although a good Norton anti-virus software package will usually come with one. Otherwise check out “Zone Alarm” by Checkpoint here http://www.zonealarm.com and it’s free
There are 2 Anti-Virus which are the Best , They are
1. BitDefender Total Security ( Has Everything .. #1 )
2. KasperSky Anti-Virus
And this is my Personal Favourite Anti-Spyware called
Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06r ..http://www.softpedia.com/result.php?pid=…
kaspersky antivirus
I’d say that Norton Antivirus worked best for me [although it may be resource-consuming]; I had to let it go at some point because I had an old computer, but with a decent processor and about 1 GB RAM you should be ok [Norton also provides firewall solutions, but I haven't tried them].
]; they have complex solutions, but the firewall-only is free. I have been very satisfied with this piece of software ever since I’ve disabled Windows built-in antivirus.
There are two ways to do an antivirus scan [and removal if any viruses are found]: manual and automatic. The manual one is run when the user starts it, and the automatic done at specific times – it can be scheduled to run whenever you want [it usually runs when you start your computer, insert a floppy in ...]
For firewalls, I’d recommend ZoneAlarm [small, easy to use, and not that memory consuming
Other software for your computer protection depend on your computer knowledge level; if you are an expert, then these should be enough. If not, perhaps you should consider using Firefox instead of IE if you’re not using it already [because there are about 10000 people testing it and it improves every day], and installing something that monitors your Registry changes, helping you keep track of what goes in, like Spybot – Search & Destroy.
Hope this helps you make an idea.
