download Yahoo toolbar. I have it and it comes with adware and spyware removal. when u download make sure to click on the anti-spy box.

and Microsoft has some mechanism as well.

Two programs that I know work very well and are top of the line are:
Spybot: Search and Destroy
AdAware SE: Personal
both are free to use and are light on resources.

avg anti spyware
and spybot
be very careful about other programs many contain viruses and even more spyware.
