Try Avira Antivir, It has a paid for and free version and the free version is pretty much the same as the paid for version minus a firewall and email scanning and some other small things. I have used AVG Anti Virus, Zone Alarm Firewall, I have recently added superantispyware and Malwarebytes. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans Hackers etc. I have just upgraded to AVG free 8.5 and all seems good so far. Zone Alarm allows a lot of personal configuration unlike the Windows Firewall. They can all be downloaded from http://www.download.com/ I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps

For me the best one was Kaspersky Internet Security and it does come with a free trial. It is a little expensive so if you are looking for a cheaper anti virus try Trend Micro Anti-virus. Hope This Helped!

There are NO best ones. Some are better than others and some have more features than others.
The fee Avast Home Edition has many useful features but for better protection i like ESET Nod32. It’s very light on your computer resources and they offer a free 30 day trial.
